Ever wondered whether there was any Asian good at Golf?

You may be surprised to know that 26 year old Arjun Atwal from Delhi took the first-round lead in the International Benson and Hedges Malaysian Open at Templer Park. If you go to his second home in Delhi, you will find it has its own lifts, two swimming pools and a host of maids to serve you.

His father owns a construction business, and is fully supportive of his son. Arjun started at 14, and within 2 years was down to a handicap of 2, before honing his game at a high school on Long Island. After 2 years of American college golf, he turned professional in 1995 and won his first title, the Indian Open, last year. He won it at Royal Calcutta, where his father had taught him to play.

The Daily Telegraph, 11 February 2000, page 42, carries more details.
